We woke up and looked outside the other day and this is what we saw in our back yard — 3 bull elk. These animals are huge! The pictures don’t really do them justice. It’s hard to believe how big they really are! It’s no wonder our plum and apple trees look so bad. Those poor trees just can’t catch a break in Colorado. If it’s not the elk, it’s the lack of rain, or the late spring snows, or the early fall frosts. Fruit trees just aren’t meant to grow in the mountains.
It was almost exactly one year ago that our neighbor spotted some elk in our back yard while we were gone on vacation. Looks like these big guys come down from the hills and try to bulk up before winter. I guess our apples are easy food for them.
Wow. 17 years? How can that be? Have we really been married that long? Ania and I just got back from a very nice weekend in Vegas. Best part? No kids! (Thanks Mom and Dad!) Not that we don’t love our kids. We do, of course. But we’ve been doing this parenting thing almost nonstop for the last 10+ years, and it starts to wear on you after awhile.
We stayed in a very nice room at the Bellagio. Those fountains are amazing! I should have some really nice videos coming soon. At least I hope so. The first one I uploaded to YouTube gave me a warning that the audio track might contain copyrighted material. Can you believe that??? The music playing in the background is copyrighted, so the audio track might be disabled. Unbelievable. Hey, I don’t have a problem with artists being compensated for their work, but this is going WAY too far. This is audio coming from cheap speakers in a television behind the camera – a cheap digital camera that’s really not even a video camera. It’s just a still camera that can take short video clips. And they’re going to say that the audio that it recorded is copyrighted, so the audio track will be disabled from the video clip. I don’t blame YouTube. They’re just trying to protect themselves from lawsuits. But I do blame the RIAA. It’s no wonder the music industry is dying.
Anyway, the weather was perfect the whole time. I don’t think we ever saw a cloud. We spent most of our time just relaxing by the pool, but we did manage to catch a Cirque du Soleil show and a couple of nice dinners. Just before we left to go to Las Vegas we found out that a couple that are friends of ours from Chicago, Yurek and Monica, would also be going to Vegas the same weekend. So we got together for dinner one night.
Sorry for the delay! I’ve made some major upgrades, and I just haven’t had the time (OK, I haven’t really felt like doing it.) to get all the pictures and videos back online yet. I hope to get them up again soon.
Welcome to the Burger Blog. This is mainly just a site where I publish photos and videos of the Burger family. Occasionally I also blog about random things I'm interested in.
